Learn how blind box miniatures work, what you get, and how to shop smartly for mystery RPG minis like the Adventurers & Adversaries range.
Quick answer
A mystery miniature is an unpainted, customizable resin figure sold in a blind box, meaning you don't know exactly which variant you get until you open it. They are a fun, affordable way to build your RPG collection.
Why blind boxes are popular for RPG miniatures
Blind boxes add an element of surprise and discovery to collecting. For tabletop RPGs, they let you grab a figure for an unexpected encounter or fill out your party without spending time choosing. The trade-off is that you might get a duplicate or a figure you don't need right away.
Frequently asked questions about mystery miniatures
- What exactly is in a mystery miniature blind box?
- A mystery miniature blind box contains one unpainted, unassembled resin figure from a specific range, like Adventurers & Adversaries. The exact figure inside is random, but the theme or set is usually known.
- Are mystery miniatures pre-painted or do I need to paint them?
- Almost all mystery miniatures sold by specialty retailers come unpainted and require assembly. This gives you full creative control over the color scheme and details. If you want a ready-to-play figure, look for pre-painted options; otherwise, expect to spend time on painting and assembly.
- Can I customize a mystery miniature after opening it?
- Yes, many mystery miniatures, especially those from Adventurers & Adversaries, are designed with interchangeable parts like different arm options. This allows you to change the weapon or pose even after unboxing. Check the product description for customization options before buying to ensure you can tailor the figure to your needs.
- How do I avoid getting duplicates when buying multiple blind boxes?
- There is no guaranteed way to avoid duplicates unless the retailer offers a specific 'no duplicate' policy. Some collectors trade with friends or buy from stores that let you choose the exact figure for a higher price. If duplicates are a concern, consider buying a specific miniature directly instead of a blind box.
